Our partner organisations are NGOs involved in promoting environmental sustainability, community development, and nature conservation. We focus on making links between UK-based organisations and organisations in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia. The organisations we work with, both in the UK and abroad, are listed below:
Russia
Baikal Environmental Wave is a leading environmental organisation in the Irkutsk Region, in Eastern Siberia. Set up in 1990, their initial purpose was to support conservation of nearby Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world. They now work on projects covering a wide range of topics concerning sustainable development and nature conservation, and have a long history of hosting international volunteers - including several Look East Wild Earth co-ordinators!!
Siberian Environmental Centre , based in Novosibirsk, works to protect the environment in central and western Siberia. With programmes on forest, steppe and river conservation, conserving birds of prey, and supporting protected areas, they work closesly with local communities, school children and volunteers (both local and international), and have an active programme of forest school camps and other educational activities. Their programmes focus on several geographical areas from around the suburbs of Novosibirsk to the Altai mountains.
Ukraine
MELP - the Youth Environmental League of Prydniprovye is a youth environmental organisation involved in sustainable development, citizens' environmental rights, and renewable energy promotion, based in Dnipropetrovsk, eastern Ukraine. They have been involved in international youth environmental projects since 1994.
Georgia
Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) works accross the Trans-Caucasus region to fosters sustainable development by building a strong and responsible civil society, and promoting good governance and accountable business to safeguard the environment and improve people’s lives. They have programmes on climate change, gender and environment, resource management, socio-economic integration and compliance management.
Greenway is a popular movement established to promote an ecologically and socially sustainable society.
Czech Republic
Youth and Environment Europe is a pan-European network of youth-led environmental organisations. Look East is an associate member of the network.
Tajikistan
For the Earth is an NGO aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding of the problems of degradation/destruction of environment, as well as to promote change in attitudes and behaviour towards greater sustainability. They run programmes in environmental education and awareness, energy efficiency, planting native trees, and disaster management.
United Kingdom
WestDEN - West Devon Environmental Network - works to achieve sustainable rural communities in Devon and beyond. Through its work and projects Westden finds, and puts into action, practical solutions to the challenges facing rural areas.
Centre for Alternative Technology is a leading eco-centre based in West Wales.
BREN - The British-Russian Eco-Cultural Network aims to promote communication between grass roots organisations and individuals, who are working on projects of social, cultural and ecological restoration and sustainable development in the Russian Federation, it's neighbouring countries and the United Kingdom. Look East supports BREN in the production of a bi-annual newsletter.
